We had the privilege this fall to participate in the Mighty Acorns program through a local high school. Because the ground was so wet from recent rainfall, we had hands-on STEM experiences instead of exploring the forest and marsh areas. Students were first assigned a type of seed (flying, sticking, or floating) and were given materials to build a seed that fit the requirement. Here students are working in their groups to create their seeds: / Tuvimos el privilegio este otoño de participar en el programa Mighty Acorns por una secundaria en el barrio. Then we participated in a simulation and pretended we were monarch butterflies. Would we survive the long migration journey to Mexico? / Después, participamos en una simulación y fingimos que fueramos mariposas monarcas. ¿Sobreviviríamos el viaje de migración a México?
Our final mission was to unpack milkweed seeds that we will use to plant a garden on a future Mighty Acorns trip.
